When it comes to food, you think you’re doing everything right…
Avoiding excessive salt and sugar.
Buying local or organic when you can.
Eating the bad stuff in moderation.
But you don’t feel right.
Low energy. Poor focus. Nagging or downright unusual health problems.
I’m Debbie Peoples, health coach and plant-based cook, and I know firsthand that you are what you eat.
I work one-on-one with clients who are ready to embark on a plant-based diet. Our work together revolves around diet and meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking instruction and guidance. With my help you can make meaningful changes in a safe, healthy and supported way.
I also lead group workshops and cooking classes by request.
I have my health coaching certificate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and my plant-based cooking certification from Rouxbe Cooking School.
My story
I grew up on a standard American diet, and as an adult prepared what I believed to be healthy and balanced meals for my own family. But at age 39, struggling with depression, mood swings and a complete absence of energy, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disorder.
My body was attacking my thyroid and the hormones it produced.
Although my naturopath wasn’t sure why I’d developed the disease, we suspected it originated from leaky gut syndrome, which is caused by diet.
After much research and a few epiphanies, I decided to switch my entire family to a gluten-free plant-based diet. At first my two athletic sons were not amused. My husband also needed some convincing.
Three months into our food revolution, our lives began to change.
One of my sons had long struggled with acne. The other, with a persistent fungal sinus infection. Both of those problems cleared up completely.
Within three years, my Hashimoto’s disease all but disappeared. I lost the weight I’d gained while I was sick, and grew back the hair I’d lost (yes, it got that bad). Now I’m more energetic and healthier than ever before.
A few things you might be surprised to learn about plants:
- You absolutely can fuel an active, high-energy lifestyle with plants, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains (just ask my sons—yes, they’re still athletes!)
- In fact, the body absorbs nutrient-dense calories from plants much more easily than those from animal products—which is why your digestive system will love you for making the change
- After a while, you will completely lose your cravings for food that falls outside of your new diet. Trust me!
Scrumptious and good for you and your family
Preparing and serving food is an incredible way to bring pleasure to others—something I’ve known since I started cooking at the tender age of 11. But now that I’ve embraced a revolutionary diet, I’ve discovered that this gift can be much more profound.
These days I share delicious food and optimal health with the people I love. I can show you how to do it, too.
